Denmark Place Baptist Church played a huge part in the lives of many generations of children /youth back in time. It provided us with a safe place to meet other local people and their families. The church and the galleries were full on Sundays and there were vibrant youth activities to keep us off the streets. As the Caribbean community has changed, so too has the place the church plays in the life of the community. Many of my contemporaries return to get married, have a child or grand child dedicated, or to hold funeral services.

When hosting events our facilities cannot compete with organisations who have had financial input from outside sources. We need to tart DPBC up to encourage a new generation. It also needs to be a hub in the community again.

The building fund has been running for a while, but the money comes in a tiny trickle from the sale of second hand books, etc. This sponsored walk is a new idea which I heard about and wanted to support.

I am walking alongside members of the congregation from Camberwell to The London Eye, Central London today from 1.00pm. If you are able to contribute something to this important cause for the Camberwell community then I will be truly grateful.
