Story

I’m competing in The Gaucho Derby - the greatest test of horsemanship and survival skill on Earth. The race starts on March 5th 2020 near El Calafate, Argentina and you can follow my progress live on the Gaucho Derby website.

As a fairly normal person, who just happens to like horse riding and doesn't at all like camping, I think I may have over-reached slightly by entering a 500km horse-riding, survival race at the bottom of South America...

By taking part in this challenge I'll be using maps and GPS to navigate between, round and over mountains, glaciers and rivers on horse-back, leading a spare horse, living in a tent and purifying stream water to drink. The region is inhospitable, barely inhabited and battered by gale force winds. Run-a-way horses, vertiginous mountain passes, exposure to the elements and getting lost are all real risks.

I'm doing this crazy race in the hope you will help me support 2 charities which mean a lot to me...

Autism Angels UK - is a Yorkshire charity that uses horses to help families and children living with autism.

Cool Earth - is a non-profit organisation that works alongside rain-forest communities to halt deforestation and climate change.

Just to be absolutely clear - the money raised will be split between the two charities equally. I have personally already paid for the cost of travelling to and entering the Gaucho Derby. Your money is not for me to go, 100% of the money will go to the 2 charities.

You can read read more about why I'm doing this on my website.
