Story
AED's, also know as Automated External Defibrillators are an incredible piece of machinery. It is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm. In the event of a suspected Cardiac Arrest, these devices can be vital in saving a life. Approximately 60,000 out of hospital Cardiac Arrests occur in the UK every year and without immediate treatment, 90-95% of victims will die. If a defibrillator and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of the Cardiac Arrest chances of survival increase from approximately 6% to 74%.
Our aim is to gain the involvement and support of the local community in Shoreham to help raise money for two Defibrillators. We are very grateful to the Bridge Inn and the Shoreham Centre whom have agreed to have a unit installed externally on their premise meaning they will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the event of an emergency, a call to 999 asking for the code will enable you to open and access the defibrillator.
We hope to raise great awareness on the locations of these defibrillators in Shoreham and also how to use them. They will not harm anyone but could save a life.
Unfortunately one of our co-owners lost a very close member of their family late last year to an unexpected Cardiac Arrest and as you can imagine this is a cause very close to us all.
