Story

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for Newton Aycliffe Youth FC

10 HSBC colleagues. 25 miles. 3 peaks. One very personal reason.

On 18 September 2026, ten of us from HSBC will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Newton Aycliffe Youth FC.

Our target is £5,000 — and we’d love your help getting there.

Why this means so much

Newton Aycliffe Youth FC isn’t just another football club to us.

It was founded in 1989 by the late Brian Rose, the father of one of our team, because there was simply nowhere in the town for local children to play football.

Brian wanted to change that.

His aim was straightforward: give young people somewhere to play, make friends, be part of a team and enjoy everything that comes with being involved in sport.

Sadly, Brian passed away on 8 December 2025, but the club he started more than 35 years ago continues to give young people that opportunity today.

Thousands of boys and girls have pulled on an Aycliffe shirt over the years. They’ve made friendships, built confidence, learned how to win and lose together, and created memories that stay with them long after their football days are over.

A few have even gone on to play professionally and even internationally — including Jason Steele and Ross Turnbull — but that isn’t what matters most.

The real legacy is the thousands of boys and girls who simply had somewhere to go and somewhere to play.

The coaches who gave up their time.

The parents who stood on the touchline in the rain.

The friendships that were made.

And the generations of young people who got the chance to be part of a team and their local community.

That’s what Brian set out to create.

And that’s what we’re hoping to help continue.

The challenge

On 18 September, the ten of us:

Stuart Rose

Simon Cadby

Ciaran McKinley

Andrew Ridley

Craig Hall

Mridul Srivastava

Toby Short

Joe Wallbridge

Natalia Ryzhkova

Grant Moxham

will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks — tackling Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough over roughly 25 miles and thousands of feet of ascent.

It’ll be a long day, with tired legs, sore feet and plenty of questioning our decision-making by the finish!

But knowing what we’re walking for should make every step worthwhile.

Please help us reach £5,000

Newton Aycliffe Youth FC isn’t a registered charity, but it is a club that has made — and continues to make — a huge difference to young people in the town.

We’re hoping to raise £5,000 to support the club and help provide opportunities for the next generation of boys and girls.

Whatever you’re able to donate will help us get closer to our target.

And if you’ve ever played for Aycliffe, coached a team, watched from the touchline, pulled on the shirt, travelled to an away game, or simply grew up with the club being part of your life, we’d love you to get behind us.

Brian started the club because he believed children in Newton Aycliffe deserved somewhere to play.

He passed away last December, but the opportunity he created for young people in the town lives on.

We’re taking on the Three Peaks together to help make sure it continues for the next generation.

Thank you for your support — and wish us luck! ❤️⚽️
