For the last two years I have had the privilege of working with INCAS, and more recently have been appointed to represent their interests in the ongoing Child Abuse Inquiry in Scotland. I have been struck by the selfless dedication and compassion of this group of volunteers, each of them survivors of abuse themselves, who devote so much of their time and energy to supporting others who are still suffering as a result of abuse in care as children. The volunteers provide a telephone support helpline which they man 24 hours a day, and campaign for the rights of survivors and for redress for the harm they suffered in childhood, and as a result throughout their adult lives too. I have witnessed first hand the level of support and compassion they show, and the emotional toll that it takes on those who volunteer. INCAS operate independently from any government interference or funding, and have no funds at all at present. I hope to be able to raise some funds for them to provide further support and counselling for the people they seek to help.
