Story
Our beautiful Simran suffered for 10 long years with a complex range of medical conditions, secondary to an autoimmune disease. After battling to manage the ever changing and relentless symptoms her illness caused so that she could live life to its fullest in every way possible, on 1st August 2020 our lives were torn apart as Simran now resides with the angels.
Despite facing numerous daily challenges, not once did we hear Simran complain about what she was going through or ever admit that she was in pain. She always wore a beaming smile and battled on without a moments falter in strength or determination. She was a true inspiration to us all - so brave, resilient, courageous and most of all a free spirit. Her passion was helping other people and ensuring those around her were happy and well despite the pain that she herself was enduring.
Simran’s passion has always been to help support people suffering with mental health including those caused by long-term illnesses. This inspired her to study Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University where she graduated last year.
Simran’s personal goal was always to achieve over and beyond. She was currently completing her Masters in Health Psychology even at the very end whilst in hospital. As a result of Simran’s sheer determination to succeed despite all odds, commitment and proven ability to demonstrate an exceptional understanding of Psychology, Simran will be awarded her truly hard earned Masters. To continue honouring Simran for generations to come the University has also setup an annual prize called the “Simran Rattu award” for exceptional MSc Health Psychology Students similar to her.
Simran’s course leader kindly shared her experience of her; “I do not meet many students like Simran, she was a rare gem; Simran’s tenacity, courage and bravery astounded me. The strength of spirit in her motivation to continue her studies through her battles with illness is an inspiration to me. Simran was a special soul and an example to us all of better ways to live our life”. This is just one example of many showing the profound impact Simran left on those lucky enough to meet her.
From a young age, Simran chose to dedicate much of her free time to help those facing life challenges - from volunteering at her local children’s hospital to charity work in various sectors including crisis centre for women, mental health and support for young people. She reached out to so many lives all whilst having so many struggles herself.
In memory of Simran we would like to continue to support what she loved the most - helping others and bringing positivity into their lives. We have chosen two charities; Mind Sheffield where she had worked as a Support Worker assisting individuals managing mental health and Chilypep where she worked and volunteered to empower and support young people. Both of these charities were close to her heart.
Simran has left an imprint of love in the hearts of everyone she met and her legacy will continue to live forever through all the souls she has touched. With the help of your donations we hope to fulfill Simran’s hopes and dreams of aiding others to face life’s challenges in a positive way.
