For many Balinese families with members who suffer from mental illness, access to treatment is difficult. Many believe disability is caused by black magic or evil spirits. Others do not know about or trust medical treatment, and those who do cannot afford it. In August 2018, as a volunteer for a month I will be running therapeutic activity sessions in psychiatric facilities for people suffering from a range of mental health issues. I'll be working in a range of government run schools and social initiatives for children with disabilities, as well as teaching English in the local community. From an area that I am greatly passionate of working within I will be able to provide hands on a great amount of support for mental health services in the local communities, which are often deprived in resources. I will be able to apply the skills that I have so far developed as a student mental health nurse and gain a vast amount of knowledge and experience that I may not gain over here in the UK and will be able to hopefully adapt my new skills over here as a future mental health nurse to help people in this country who are living with mental health difficulties. I would greatly appreciate any small donation to help with my volunteer work in Bali which will be used for resources, food, transport and accommodation. Thank you for reading!
