I've raised £5000 to help secure a safe space for SISTAH SPACE

Sunday 30th August, 15:00 - 22:30 BST. You can rewatch the broadcast on YouTube.
Sistah Space is a London-based charity dedicated to supporting African & Caribbean heritage women and girls affected by domestic and sexual abuse. Now under imminent threat of eviction, Sistah Space is being forced to suspend their essential and life-saving services, or return to unsuitable and unsafe premises by August 31st.
In a society where Black women and girls can suffer violent racism, violent misogyny and violent exclusion all at once, Hackney Council's marginalisation of this specialist service is deplorable. In the midst of a global pandemic which has disproportionately endangered Black communities' health - where domestic violence has surged; now, more than ever, vulnerable Black women and girls need access to safe spaces and specialist support.
It is widely acknowledged that domestic abuse increased dramatically during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been especially traumatic for domestic abuse survivors from the African & Caribbean heritage community because the majority of mainstream services do not understand or cater for black women and girls affected by domestic or sexual abuse. This is especially true of the grassroots/Rastafarian and other communities that remain invisible in plain sight.
This Sunday 30th August we're raising emergency funds towards a safe space for Sistah Space.
£150,000 will enable Sistah Space to secure its own premises and continue supporting service users without compromising on safety. We've no time to wait for local governments to decide to invest in grassroots Black-owned organisations; we urgently need to gather these funds as a community.
Join us for a livestream event of healing music, meditation, poetry & soundscape in solidarity with survivors / victims, and to help raise awareness and funds for Sistah Space. With only one day before the end of their campaign and eviction, we ask the community to donate generously, and with justice, safety and wellbeing in mind. We invite anyone affected by these issues, and supporters, into this space held for healing, expression and reflection.
