In April 2026, Bex will be taking on the London Marathon wearing a weighted vest to raise money for Sisters in Service.

Sisters in Service is a Community Interest Company dedicated to creating a safe, supportive network for women who have served in the UK Armed Forces and are now working in healthcare or studying for a healthcare-related degree.

Historically, women veterans’ needs and lived experiences have been underrepresented in research and support services, resulting in a lack of targeted resources. Research shows that 22.5% of female veterans in the UK experienced sexual harassment during their military service, and 5.1% experienced sexual assault. This is thought to contribute to the fact that women veterans are twice as likely to experience PTSD and report higher rates of depression and anxiety compared to their male counterparts. Many also face the additional challenge of reintegrating into civilian life while managing responsibilities such as caregiving or parenting.

Sisters in Service was created to address this gap. The organisation exists to support women veterans, particularly those working in healthcare, by providing a safe environment, encouraging meaningful connection, enabling effective networking, and promoting help-seeking behaviours.

Sisters in Service is a dedicated space for mutual support and connection, offering a range of services including emotional and professional support, career development opportunities, and peer networking for women veterans in healthcare.

Funds raised will go towards career coaching for members, organising future events, and covering essential running costs such as website maintenance and administration to keep the network accessible and sustainable.
