Story
Please give whatever you can, every penny will be appreciated by this lovely family.
On the 10th September disaster struck when our cousin Eugene, his wife Kirsty and his two children Aidan and Ella’s house was burnt to the ground along with everything they owned with it. Thankfully they were able to escape, with Eugene suffering minor burns
The islanders made a rapid response and managed with the grace of conditions of no wind and a full moon to contain and extinguish the fire using garden hoses to prevent further homes going up or the flax catching
Islanders build from scratch with some local stone and all other materials saved for and gradually imported from South Africa. It often takes years for couples to finish their home and move out from parents cottages.
The islanders are unable to be insured (due to remote location no company will insure) so they now rely on kindness from the community.
The community have been rallying to support the family and they have managed to go back to stay in spare rooms of a family member, the community have been giving them spare clothes etc.

2 years agoHi Everyone This is just a quick update on our cousin Eugenes house. Since leaving the Island Eugene, family and friends have helped clear the debris left from the fire. They are now left with the shell of their property. We have reached our £5,000 goal and would like to see if we can get a bit more, so if you can help that would be great.

Tristan Da Cunha
Our dad was born on Tristan Da Cunha and was one of the first men to go back into the island after the volcano. We have made the journey back in honour of him and to meet our Auntie who we haven’t seen for 36 years also to meet relatives we haven’t met and to make new friends
