Story

Sladewood Academy is a Special School in Stroud. We support children with a variety of needs, including Autism, communication & interaction, as well as sensory processing difficulties.

We are seeking funding to develop a safe and fully accessible playground, ensuring that all our pupils can experience the joy and benefits of play in a secure environment. Our project is structured in two phases, with the first phase focused on creating a safe and inclusive walkway to the playground. This will enable all children, regardless of their mobility or sensory needs, to access the play area safely and enjoy equal opportunities for engagement, exploration, and social interaction.

By investing in this initiative, we aim to remove barriers to play and promote inclusion, ensuring every child at Sladewood Academy can participate fully in a safe, supportive, and enriching environment.

The second phase of our project focuses on developing a purpose-built play space that meets the diverse needs of our pupils, supporting their sensory, emotional well-being, communication, and imaginative play skills. Our goal is to create a safe, engaging environment that nurtures physical development while catering to individual play schemas, sensory processing needs, and interaction skills.

We plan to incorporate a range of play opportunities, including climbing, swinging, spinning, and other active outdoor experiences, which are essential for motor development and sensory regulation. Additionally, we aim to provide dedicated areas for imaginative and messy play, allowing children to explore creativity and continue their classroom learning in an outdoor setting.

By investing in this inclusive play space, we will create meaningful opportunities for our pupils to develop essential life skills, build confidence, and engage in play that is both therapeutic and educational.

Phase 1 of our project is estimated to cost: £45,000

Phase 2 of our Project is estimated to cost around £30,000- £35,000

In total we are looking to raise: £75,000 to £80,000

W have raised the following: £34,565.38, This has been through generous grants from wider stakeholders and our own events such as summer fetes, clothes collections and run runs.

" Children at Sladewood thrive in outdoor environments, and with the right equipment and activities, they will have the opportunity to grow socially and emotionally. We anticipate improvements in their self-regulation, increased opportunities for communication and play with peers, and greater independence. The support we have received so far has been truly incredible, and we are excited to showcase this wonderful project, which will have a lasting impact on our children, staff, and the wider community."

Thank you for your support of Sladewood Academy and our children.
