Story

I'm raising £2,000 to help keep Sliced n Diced going.

Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by to read this fundraiser. As we approach the 2 year anniversary of me taking over Sliced n Diced, I've been reflecting on its future, and mine. Many of you will know that I have dedicated pretty much every waking moment to the cafe over these 2 years and whilst I wouldn't have changed it for the world, it does take its toll.

Since taking over in December 2023 I've poured my heart and soul into this place to build on the amazing foundation laid before me. Introducing different membership tiers and benefits, bottomless brunches, the multi-gaming table among many other things.

I absolutely love running this place and creating a space for the community that has built up over the years. The plan has always been to grow the business, which has happened, and employ people to give myself a little break every now and then. Whilst I do take days off every now and then to go see shows or do things like drag, I sadly can't take too many of them. For transparency, ever day that I close I lose between £200 - £400 (sometimes more if it's a weekend) in sales. This is not an insignificant amount and can sometimes be the difference between being able to pay the bills in any given month.

Earlier this year I posted about wanting to open a second location and this is still something I would love to do. A branch of Sliced n Diced focused on social deduction games would be incredibly cool to do! However without the funding this will sadly remain a dream.

So what's the purpose of this fundraiser? It's to be able to continue running Sliced n Diced if I'm being brutally honest. Don't worry, I have no plans to close the cafe down (despite some rumours going around) but I'd be lying if I said I haven't explored the option of selling the business to someone who can continue its growth, and this also isn't an option I've ruled out. If I was ever going to sell, it would be on the condition that it remains a board game cafe and continues all the great work put in so far.

There have been months where sales haven't been as high as expected, so I've had to use personal funds to cover costs and pay some bills. This is the nature of the beast unfortunately, and one of the pitfalls of being self-employed. I'd love to be able to take some time off to go on a holiday, see some friends and spend time with family but the business comes first and that's where the focus is in order to maintain it.

A lot of you will know my dedication to the place (for example, I went to Sweden last year to see a friend, flew back the Monday morning and was open of the evening!) because I absolutely love this place and the community that has been created, but I also recognise that I can't keep this up on my own at the pace I've been going.

So I'm here, cap in hand, which is something I really dislike doing as I'm a fiercely independent person, and usually the one offering to help others, asking for a little bit of support so that Sliced N Diced can continue.

Thank you!
