Story

The Snow Hill Community Photo Project is an ongoing project based in the Snow Hill area of Bath. It aims to bring the community together to produce a socially driven body of work, which fairly depicts the community. The community is diverse and has a strong community feeling, this is becoming unusual in a city that is becoming increasingly gentrified by outside money, and loosing its identity. Whilst there are many visitors to the city very few see the reality of life for those living here, the normal people, living normal lives, doing normal things. Snow Hill has a rich heritage; it was once considered the West Indian part of the city and was home to the pub with the first black landlord in the UK, it is also home to the tallest building in the City. Not all of Snow Hill’s history is positive, like many other places has had its problems, but this project aims to concentrate on the things that make it a thriving community today.

The project aims to produce an exhibition early in 2019 placed at the Gateway Centre that lies at the heart of the community. We have also been invited to exhibit our work as part of the Larkhall Festival and Fringe Arts Festival 2019 We are currently looking for sponsorship and funding opportunities to support our work and upcoming exhibitions. We hope to expand to offer equipment that can be used for more advanced technical lesson and learning opportunities.
