Story

Back in 2020, before Covid, myself and my then employer Relec Electronics decided to enter the Tunbridge Wells charity soapbox race to raise funds for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the young) through Team Ben Hammond, and the soapbox charity The Weald Hospice. Relec has sponsored the soapbox for a few years, this is our first time of entering!

I lost my cousin when he was just 15 and CRY does an amazing job preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research and by supporting families.

On average 12 young people a week die from undiagnosed heart conditions. Many of these conditions can often be picked up by heart screening, but this service is not offered on the NHS. A screening day costs £5000 and 100 young people can be screened in this time.

Hospice in the Weald is a local charity to Kent and Sussex providing care for patients with a terminal illness and those important to them.

Now in 2022, since my retirement, both myself and Relec are still up for the challenge of raising much needed funds for these two worthwhile charities. We would like to raise the modest amount of £500 divided between the charities.

It would be hugely appreciated by me but more importantly the many people supported by the two charities if you would help us reach our goal. All donations are very much gratefully received.

If you would like to know more about the fabulous work the charities do or the event please just ask, our soapbox is Star Wars themed with a twist..Staff Wars!

Thank you very much for your generous support
