Story

The Soffe family is walking 500,000 steps EACH in October to raise money for Birmingham Childrens Hospital (BCH). We hope to raise enough money for Virtual Reality (VR) headsets to use for distraction therapy for children at BCH. Every day hundreds of children undergo procedures at BCH, these include chemo, blood tests, dressing changes, injections & laser treatment. VR headsets are used to distract these children from the painful and scary procedures they are undergoing. These headsets cost £10,000 each.

Our family knows the benefit of these VR headsets first hand and we have spent many days at BCH. In 2014 the youngest of us, Elizabeth, was seriously burnt in a house fire when she was 6 months old. She spent many months in the BCH Internsive Care Unit and the Specialist Burns Centre. The hospital staff performed over 70 operations on Elizabeth and countless dressing changes. Elizabeth, now 8 years old is walking her 500,000 steps with the rest of the family.
