Story
SNS assistant director, a Palestinian peace activist and an Israeli peace activist have decided to carry out a Day of Solidarity by fasting for a day this Thursday. Staff back in the UK will also join this Day of Solidarity. We hope that you will support us in this by donating as much or as little as you can and/or joining us in our fast. After the dreadful attack on Finsbury Park's Muslim community on June 18th 2017, a group of staff and volunteers from Solutions Not Sides is organising a Day of Solidarity on Thursday June 22nd in order to support the Muslim community in Finsbury Park and around the UK. Solutions Not Sides is currently working in schools in Berlin with the assistant director, an Israeli peace activist, and a Palestinian peace activist in order to reduce polarisation, push back against simplistic and hateful narratives towards certain groups of people, and promote conflict resolution.
On Thursday, we will all join the Palestinian peace activist and hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world in fasting for Ramadan, and we hope to raise funds for HOPE Not Hate in the process whilst standing in solidarity with the Muslim community of Finsbury Park that was affected by Sunday's horrific attack. This community was purposefully attacked during Ramadan, just after prayer, and following a period of fundraising for the Grenfell victims. No person nor group of people nor community should have to fear for their lives or fear for their dignity, and certainly not during such an important time. This community's generosity and empathy stands directly in contrast to the hate, racism, and fear that the attacker chose to embrace. HOPE not hate seeks to challenge and defeat the politics of hate and extremism within local communities, building resilience against the politics of hate and fear, and fighting extremism of all types. We believe in their ability to fight the kind of hate that was involved in the attack.
