I've raised £500 to support Somerset Sight charity and The History Hut (Somerset history in a nissen hut in Low Ham, nr Langport)

Since creating this route of 100 miles, a firm favourite listener on our wonderful BBC Radio Somerset, Effie from Puriton, has sadly died. Along with the radio presenters, she was a familiar voice through Covid. Her stories and memories from her 100 year life - hence the 100 miles, were always fascinating, informative and entertaining. To fondly remember 'Effie the Somerset Centurian' I hope to raise money for Somerset Sight, a charity that helped Effie, and people like her with visual problems.
My second chosen project, is The History Hut at Low Ham. This is a re-imagined nissen hut, created and run by Karen Cook, providing an amazing space to discover and celebrate Somerset and it's history. In an idyllic setting, on an historic site, it has artefacts, and displays on local history, countryside, wars and battles. The History Hut is free entry, but relies on donations, and is a great resource for the schools, groups and clubs that visit. There are also open weekends, often with a theme, and guest exhibitors. I call this a 'Non-profit Museum of everything Somerset'.
The Cook family have been an incredible support to me and my family, and are involved in helping charities in the local area.
