My Little girls story
Tiarna as we thought was born healthy well she had some issues but heart wise we thought she was good.She was being regular monitored by her big brothers cardiology team which showed no signs of an abnormal heart beat also known as an arrhythmia..
19th Nov 2013 just 7 days away from turning 2 yrs old tiarna suddenly collapsed and died at home.I was lucky that i had witnessed this before and instantly started cpr on her with her brother who was 16 at the time call 999.
To cut a long story short tiarna died 6 times that day and was transferred to Bristol childrens hospital NICU ward where we where told that she maybe severly brain damaged to due the length of time she was without oxygen.The doctors and nurses cried with me that day as 10 yrs previous i had been there before with the same doctors and nurses and same words for tiarnas brother tyrone.
It was a waiting game that only when she woke would we know the outcome.
Her birthday came the nurses made a huge banner to put above her bed not something i had seen in nicu before...It was lovely and we still have that banner.The next day tiarna was fitted with an icd (internal cardio defibrillator).
It was 3 days later she was weaned of the ventilator but she started fighting so was put bk to sleep and med lowered to wake her up slowly at her own pace that came the nx day.
She muttered very quietly i want my daddy.Those are some of the most precious words ive ever heard.
Im lucky to have my daughter and son still here with me today but there are parents out there that like me are unaware that they or their children are walking about this world with an unknown cardiac problem and like my children no symptoms..
12 young people under the age of 30 die every week in the uk due to these undiagnosed conditions.
