The first part of our trip is focused on community, we will be going to local villages and offering our help by building classrooms, bridges, and community spaces. This will give the locals opportunities to improve their education and have a safer environment to live in.

The next section is focussed on wildlife around the Kinabatangan River where we work as volunteers at the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary which is famous for helping orphaned and injured orangutans recover before being released back into the wild. We will also spend time planting food trees to sustain this brilliant and endangered species.

When we move camps again, we will be working for the environment. Borneo has one of the highest deforestation rates in the world and vast areas of the jungle are torn down to make room for palm plantations, destroying the unique and vibrant ecosystem and critically endangering many species. We will be replanting saplings in areas most affected by deforestation.

The last part of our four week trip will be spent learning jungle first aid and survival techniques whilst embarking on 5 day trek through the Borneo jungle. We will gain a new perspective on life, face fears, and sleep in hammocks beneath a jungle canopy with no light pollution. This will be an amazing opportunity to visit poignant memorials to World War II soldiers hidden deep in the jungle. Our trip will conclude by relaxing at the coast for two days before returning to the UK.
