£11,173raised of £5,000 target by 173 supporters

Weʼve raised £11,173 to increase awareness for Brain Tumours (Brain Cancer) by supporting Macmillans - Longest Day Golf Challenge.

    Leicester, United Kingdom
Funded on Monday, 23rd October 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Sonya was diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2016, it has changed our lives and we are fighting each day to keep such a vicious little gremlin at bay.

Each year in the UK 5,000 people are diagnosed with high grade fast growing brain tumours (brain cancer). Yet below 1% of the national spend on cancer research is allocated to this devastating disease.

We are not sure what future treatment Sonya will need, currently she is undergoing mainstream treatment but we continue to look at alternative treatments in the UK and worldwide.

    Our fundraising plan is threefold;

    1. Raise money to support any treatment that Sonya may need.
    2. Raise money for to assist them work to find a cure for such a degenerating cancer.
    3. Raise money for they provide amazing supportive and personal care during the most challenging times.

Prior to diagnosis Sonya had been very poorly for a number of weeks to the point of being bed bound, after numerous visits to GPs & neuro specialists her condition still lay undetected until she was admitted to hospital after her symptoms worsened suddenly.

Her initial symptoms were severe headaches, nausea, confusion, photophobia, slurred speech, weakness to the left hand side of her body and wanting to sleep continuously.

Early one Sunday morning following an uncontrollable headache and vomiting she was rushed into hospital via A&E for a CT scan, it was only then she received the heartbreaking news which would change hers, mine and our families lives forever, they had found a mass on her brain.

Due to the advanced stage of her condition major brain surgery was required immediately, then more bad news the tumour was found to be malignant.

Following surgery, the months since have been filled with continued treatment involving radiotherapy, chemotherapy, regular MRI's and still the chemo continues...... in the hope one day it will disappear!

Well its now just over a month ago since Sonya passed away & many people have asked how the fundraising is going, simple answer to that is AMAZING!! People have still continued to donate & support such an amazing cause. Sonya knew a long time ago this money wouldn't go to helping her directly as her life would be cut short but she was adamant it would go to helping others, so on behalf of us both Thank you to each & everyone of you that has helped spread the awareness of this truly awful disease. Is £15,000 achievable ???

Thank you to each & every single one of you from the bottom of my heart for all your kind messages & cards. There are not enough words to describe how devastated & heartbroken I am at the moment but I do get a great sense of pride from what we have all achieved together in raising the awareness for Brain Tumour's over the last couple of months as Sonya set out to do. As a legacy to Sonya this page will remain open for the next couple of months to see if we can indeed raise some more money to help others as she wished. Mick
