Story

Sonya was diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2016, it has changed our lives and we are fighting each day to keep such a vicious little gremlin at bay.

Each year in the UK 5,000 people are diagnosed with high grade fast growing brain tumours (brain cancer). Yet below 1% of the national spend on cancer research is allocated to this devastating disease.

We are not sure what future treatment Sonya will need, currently she is undergoing mainstream treatment but we continue to look at alternative treatments in the UK and worldwide.

Our fundraising plan is threefold;

1. Raise money to support any treatment that Sonya may need.
2. Raise money for https://www.braintumourresearch.org/ to assist them work to find a cure for such a degenerating cancer.
3. Raise money for https://www.macmillan.org.uk/ they provide amazing supportive and personal care during the most challenging times.

SONYA'S STORY
Prior to diagnosis Sonya had been very poorly for a number of weeks to the point of being bed bound, after numerous visits to GPs & neuro specialists her condition still lay undetected until she was admitted to hospital after her symptoms worsened suddenly.

Her initial symptoms were severe headaches, nausea, confusion, photophobia, slurred speech, weakness to the left hand side of her body and wanting to sleep continuously.

Early one Sunday morning following an uncontrollable headache and vomiting she was rushed into hospital via A&E for a CT scan, it was only then she received the heartbreaking news which would change hers, mine and our families lives forever, they had found a mass on her brain.

Due to the advanced stage of her condition major brain surgery was required immediately, then more bad news the tumour was found to be malignant.

Following surgery, the months since have been filled with continued treatment involving radiotherapy, chemotherapy, regular MRI's and still the chemo continues...... in the hope one day it will disappear!
