My name is Sophia Thanasi and I am a student at Beauchamp College in Leicester. I am participating in an expedition to Tanzania in 2018. This will be a 4-week expedition and will include community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation. It will also include additional elements such as a safari and a trek to the peak of Mt Meru.

The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to:
- Raise the educational standards of developing communities within a rural district of Tanzania
- Raise the living standard of developing communities within a rural district of Tanzania
- Assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats.

This expedition is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills such as problem solving and adaptability, time management, communication, confidence, teamwork, consideration and being challenged. I also think that it would be a fantastic experience to see the amazing wildlife, the picturesque views, how people in Tanzania go about their day to day lives and how different they are to ours.
