I've raised £5000 to help fund a much needed new playground and equipment to engage children and keep them active at Hollywell Primary School

We are Sophie and Jessica Wright and we will be just 7 years old when we attempt to complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge! We have climbed many mountains and have been inspired by Daddy and Mummy who have led many groups around the challenge. We have climbed Snowdon and know how hard this is going to be but we have the full support of family and friends and we want to raise raise funds for a much-needed new playground at our school.
We will be training hard and will be climbing the 3 mountains back to back on Fri 2nd June, starting at Ben Nevis in Scotland, with an onward travel to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike in the dark and onto to Wales to finish summiting Snowdon Saturday morning.
Hollywell Primary School’s current playground is tired, uninspiring and in need of a make-over. All of the pupils, access the playground every day and to quote Hollywell’s pupils, the current playground is “boring”, and “we need new stuff to make it more fun.”
It is universally understood that play has huge benefits for both the mental and physical health of children and that it helps to set them up for happier and healthier adolescences and adulthoods. From the positive impacts on bone, muscle and lung health to academic attainment and giving children the tools to problem solve, develop their interests, and explore their imagination; the impact of play in childhood is far-reaching. Moreover, playtime makes up 20% of primary-aged children's school life - that is 231 hours or 37 days per school year!
Currently the children make the best of what they have, but the current playground does not stimulate active play and children are often found standing around at playtimes instead of actively engaged in play.
We want to change this by helping to fundraise the redevelopment of the playground but we need your help to do this. The new-look playground will include a team sports area for games with a special all weather surface, an active area with outdoor gym equipment, a music zone, a quieter area and benches for children who don't want to be involved in the hustle and bustle as well as an open-air stage. There will also be a range of playground markings including an activity trail, a dance mat, target throwing and snakes and ladders. This project will have a huge, long-lasting, and positive effect on all the children in the school for many years to come.
