Story

Afasic is a specialist charity based in the UK that helps and supports children, young people and families affected by speech, language and communication needs, with a focus on developmental language disorder. Research shows that at least 7% of children and young people are affected; an average of 2 per school class.

I was lucky enough to be asked to be an ambassador for this amazing charity, I have developmental language disorder and I know my parents used this service when I was young, so I want to continue to help other families by raising money

Afasic provides support at key stages in these children and young people’s lives; provides information and training for parents so they can better support and advocate for their child; and empowers parents to access the help their child needs. Support for parents and carers is provided through our parents’ helpline, free website resources and online training courses. Afasic organises week long courses providing specialist support for children facing the key transition from primary to secondary school.

Ultimately, Afasic helps children and young people develop their communication, social and life skills, reduce their social isolation and increase their independence. We aim to give these children and young people the opportunity to reach their true potential and take an active role in society rather than face isolation from it.
