    Story

Hi everyone, as you all know I love my job as a dental nurse and have been working in the profession for 6 years. I am an employee at the Queen Street Dental Centre and enjoy meeting members of the Peterhead community and helping them every day. A particular aspect of my job (which I love) is when I get the opportunity to work with children and vulnerable adults and make their experience of visiting the dentist less daunting and more enjoyable.

I am delighted to announce that next year I will be travelling over 5000 miles to visit Zambia and share my skills and knowledge with the local people there. We can often take for granted the health care and professionals we are privileged to have here in Scotland and how there are others in the world less fortunate than us. Bearing that in mind I have volunteered to work alongside Dentaid.

“Dentaid is a British Christian based charity and organisation whose aim is to try and improve the world’s oral health. Dentaid is supported by a large number of British volunteers who give up their time to conduct hard work for Dentaid’s reputable cause.”

During my trip I will spend time treating patients in the Itezhi Tezhi Hospital and run outreach clinics in surrounding villages providing much needed dental aid to the people there. We also hope to visit local churches and schools where we can educate children about good dental hygiene and care. It will be an amazing trip and truly life changing for the people we meet while there.

I will be making the journey with Natalie Williamson (dental nurse) and Hawar Al-Haddad (dentist) who are colleagues of mine from the Peterhead practice. We have been asked by Dentaid to raise £2200 each to cover travel costs, purchase basic dental supplies for our project and to support the fantastic work already ongoing and administered by Dentaid.

Over the course of the next year, Hawar, Natalie and I will be hosting lots of fundraisers to help us reach our goal. These events include coffee mornings, quiz nights, bingo nights and much more. I will share details of each event once they have been finalised and look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

I am kindly asking for any donations to help me reach my fundraising target, so we can travel to Zambia and make a huge difference to their oral health and provide much needed dental support and treatment. Your generosity and kindness is much appreciated, thank you in advance.

    Lots of Love

    Sophie
