I am trying to raise funds to go on a Wildlife Conservation Programme with 'Venture Force' to Sumatra in Indonesia in October 2017.

I am going to help one of the World's leading conservation charities (Pan Eco) who are aiding orangutans that cannot be returned to the wild because of injury or illness. This project will provide me with the opportunity to take part in various field work activities in the rainforest such as; jungle treks (night and day), visit to the SOCP Veterinary Unit, indigenous cultural activities, jungle river trip to a remote research station and much more.

Pan Eco are developing an orangutan 'Haven' deep in rural Sumatra for rescued orangutans and we will be visiting the haven to undertake field work and research to support the preservation of the orangutans and the environment essential to their survival.

We have learnt that the rainforest in this area has been massively demolished to make way for palm tree plantations for the production of palm oil which is widely used globally in hundreds of products that most of us use or consume on a daily basis. We will also be undertaking a re-planting project deep in the rainforest as part of our programme.

The trip will provide me with a unique, challenging 'hands on' experience combining both expedition leadership and management skills. We will be encouraged to lead the 'day to day running' of the expedition ourselves with the assistance of knowledgeable locals who are briefed only to guide us in our decision making processes.

Completion of the expedition is a recognised achievement that can be recorded on my CV and is respected by future employers as much as, if not more so than The Duke of Edinburgh Award (which I am also starting this year).
