I've raised £1000 to help Sri Lankan children suffering from mental health disorders receive the resources and support that they desperately require

In October, I will be going to Sri Lanka with Slv.Global (see this link for more details: https://slv.global/placements-abroad/sri-lanka-mental-health-placement) for 4 weeks to run projects within in-patient psychiatric wards. I will be working with individuals suffering from mental health issues, from as young as 3 years old, and from all different backgrounds. During my time there I will be learning about cross-cultural mental health, how it's viewed and providing them with resources that are currently lacking, and help individuals develop their English skills. I will also take part in a field visit with a mental health professional, shadowing them throughout their day, be involved in running Addiction Prevention, and Trauma workshops, as well as have meetings with doctors who work in the wards.
I will be staying at a homestay with a Sri Lankan family, get the opportunity to meet loads of new people, and get some time to explore the country on the weekends. But more importantly, I will receive first hand experience working with young people who are struggling from mental health issues, in a culture that sees mental health disorders from a religious standpoint. This is very different to how Western culture sees it, so it will provide me with a unique eye-opening experience into how Sri Lanka deals with the mental health sector. Mental health is an area that I want to work in during my career and this is a great starting point to set me off on my journey.
So I really appreciate anything you can give to help. I will be updating you with lots of photos of my trip, that will no doubt be a fantastic experience!
