If you're looking for a good and direct way to give to the Somalia drought response, this could be an option. 100+ runners will brave the heat to run a marathon (or, for the less foolish/ feebler - like me - , a half marathon) in Mogadishu this weekend. Funds raised will go straight to my wonderful boss to channel to the projects making the most difference on the ground here. It will be hot and dusty and slow and awful, but this is the most worthy of causes.

More than half the population - 6.2 million people - are in need of assistance, as failing rains have driven food shortages across the country. Nearly 3 million people are facing food emergency, with one million children at risk of malnutrition. Famine is a real possibility in 2017 without an immediate and large-scale response. Cholera has also taken hold across much of the country, affecting more than 12,000 people this year.

Donors have given generously and the response continues to scale up. 1.1 million people were reached with food support last month. But more is needed and every little helps.
