Story
Jeel Al-Amal Orphanage in Bethany, East Jerusalem.
Jean Woods came across Jeel Al-Amal home during a visit to Israel in 1987. She would often talk of the first time she visited and the immediate impact it had on her. Since 1987 Jean visited Jeel Al-Amal 27 times. Each visit she would fill her suitcase with medication, sports equipment, clothing and take a donation that she would have saved and fundraised between trips.
Staying in Jerusalem Jean would travel to the West Bank with suitcase in hand to spend time at the home helping either at the school or around the home.
I had the privilege of accompanying Jean on her last 3 trips and seeing first-hand the amazing work that Jeel Al-Amal is doing and how the charitable donations are supporting both the school and the children’s home. Every year part of the sports equipment would always include Table Tennis bats and balls which has clearly paid off with one of the boys finishing 8th at an international table tennis tournament.
I will visit later this year and will continue her legacy.
