We are a family fundraising group who are raising funds for our young relative, Sophie. Sophie is 13 years old and this is her story...

Sophie went to bed with a migraine a few months ago. When her mum went in to check on her she was unresponsive and had to be rushed to hospital where she was found to have contracted pneumococcal meningitis. Unfortunately this caused blood clots and swelling to her brain that then caused damage to her brain stem.

Sophie then spent a week on life support and in an induced coma. She is currently quadriplegic and has assisted breathing through a tracheotomy. On top of this she had to have a pace maker fitted and is currently in intensive care.

The future is uncertain but this is life changing for Sophie and her whole family. There will be costs involved as she will eventually be transferred to a specialist rehabilitation clinic in Tamworth for extensive treatment with the hope of one day getting her home, this will involve travel costs for her family. Her long term care needs mean she will need help to buy specialist equipment to ensure she has the best care and life she deserves.

This is just one part of the fundraising that we will be doing. Along with this we will also be organising fundraising events such as a bake sale, a football match, a netball tournament an auction and a fundraising night at one of our local pubs.
