Recently i have volunteered in lombok and didn’t have the best experience with one of the foundations there. More detail on my insta highlight. The end result of the story was that a lot of the boys were not being taught to the level where their english could improve. The students that i met had sought out another english teacher to learn even the basics after being at the previous foundation for 8months. After leaving the foundation and realise it was just a profitable buisness and our volunterring work wasnt doing much good except for the founders bank balance we looked at another option for these students to learn english in a safe and efficiant way. many of the students left the foundation and have been working along side a local english teacher. They have all decided they wanted to build an english learning community. They have made connections with a university and asked support of a state school to use their facilities. Their goal is to house volunteers to be able to practice with native speakers while also learning off a curriculum with their local teacher.

The students have all contributed to this idea and with the support we can make their dreams of learning english to travel and work a reality. These are some of the kindest souls i have met. They have very low fees for the classes and there will soon be online zoom meetings held for students and teachers to share and talk with volunteers to practice and connect. The community will be part of the school created by Mr Saef and his wife. Their reason for establishing the school:

“This school is present because we see many people want to study English but the problem is too expensive for paying a course so that we as Yayasan syafana madani center made this school really cheap so everyone can study and also, we have free English course that specially for students of elementary school because many of students of elementary school want to study but less of understanding of their parent about education. And also, we want this school has positive effect for community round the school.”

This is what the students and teachers have described this new adventure as:

(SEC) SYAFANA ENGLISH COMUNITY

“Under of Yayasan syafana madani center we have comunity the name is SEC Syafana English Comunity that help who want to increase their English specially for junior high school, senior high school. And also help the students to increase their social and emotional skills because they meet with students from other school. The advantage joining in this community increase their ability in English, learning about grammar, training about public speaking, learning about telling story, speech and debate.

​The topic that we use in this community we have special curriculum that match with their level as like topic in basic level, intermediate and advance according to their ability and The programs that we prepare for camping, study tour, study in outdoor,

➢ we do camping when the students already able to speak in English because we have English camp and the run down the program all about English like telling, speech and debate,

➢ Study tour, we do the study tour after two month learning because we need also study tour hilling for the students and also to look for guest from other country to practice because we don’t have any volunteer in our school.

➢ So that if any want to help us be our volunteer please because we really need to help us to increase student speaking because they need you to help them”

to make this a reality they need support as many of the teachers are working multiple jobs in different state schools and boarding schools along side their own school. As their own foundation is based on affordable or free lessons for the community.
