Story
We are raising vital funds to support survivors of child sexual abuse through the SoulKind Beneficiary Programe
Here’s why.
Miranda Eyre, Poppy’s mum, first reached out after discovering the SoulKind books. She was drawn to the honest, uplifting way we tell stories, and asked if I would consider including her daughter’s story in our next edition. And to be honest, my first instinct wasn’t an immediate yes. I felt unqualified to do Poppy’s story justice. But Miranda’s call came at a time when we were developing the idea for a beneficiary programme — bringing together small, intimate groups of trauma survivors and helping them rediscover purpose through adventure and shared lived experience.
Then I met Poppy. Spending the day with this incredible young woman — whose determination to share her own story of trauma in order to break the taboo surrounding child sexual abuse — left an immediate impact on me.
Even more sobering was learning about the scale of the problem: one in four children are affected by sexual abuse. It’s a statistic that should not exist in modern society, yet it’s the reality we face today. Poppy’s BBC documentary My Grandfather – The Abuser which reached every continent except Antarctica, with 2,326,853 views also spoke volumes. The overwhelming feedback? People were desperate to connect with others who had experienced the same, so they didn’t feel alone.
By finding the courage to speak out, Poppy has not only given hope to many, she’s shown what’s possible when someone is believed, supported, and held safely.
Traditional one-on-one therapy is invaluable, providing critical support to thousands of survivors. However, it is only one part of the solution. Many survivors lack a sense of belonging, safety, and ongoing support beyond the therapy room – key factors that trauma experts emphasise as essential for deep, lasting recovery.
Inspired by these principles, the SoulKind Beneficiary Program will use outdoor adventure as therapy combined with group-based healing to create a powerful, long-term support network for our first group - CSA survivors.
This initiative will take six survivors from diverse backgrounds through a transformative series of expert-led outdoor workshops, designed to rebuild confidence, self-worth and a sense of belonging.
For the bigger picture - we are looking for investors and partners to support us financially but we have to start somewhere.
