    Story

Southampton Scrapstore is a registered charity (No 292075). We have been in existence for almost 30 years.

Our van needs fuel, an MOT and service, insurance and breakdown cover, as well as a driver, of course:
    £850 for fuel
£4,160 to pay for a part time driver post for one year
£300 for its MOT, service and parts
£900 Insurance and breakdown cover costs
    £250 tax
    Total : £6,460

We collect waste materials from local businesses which would otherwise go to landfill. The materials are then reused by local communities for a variety of arts and crafts based activities and projects, for example, they might be used for activities in schools, art projects to engage the local community, activities to help with health and well-being, assisting people to develop in confidence and learn new skills, homemade crafts, craft workshops and much, much more!

Recycling the materials that would otherwise go to landfill or incineration not only benefits the environment, it helps to raise awareness about reusing existing items and giving them another lease of life - and provides a great opportunity to inspire others to do the same.

As with many other local charities, the cuts in grants along with rising costs have meant that we need to raise funds to keep us going. We're run by a brilliant team of volunteers and two part time staff. We're currently funded by membership fees, donations and general fundraising. We no longer receive any funding from the local authority, because of funding cuts.

Our goal is raise £6,460, to keep our lovely Southampton Scrapstore van on the road for another year, to enable us to keep on supporting the amazing projects who we provide scrap materials for. Without this, we couldn't provide the wide choice of resources to our community members, who are schools, preschools, individuals, artists, charities and other community groups across Hampshire and into Sussex and Wiltshire. Anyone can join and membership starts from £17.50 for a year.

Hi I agree with the other sentiments it would really impact on the scrapstore being able to offer a service without a van , If everyone could donate something the together we can make the difference
