Story
We are 4 Explorer scouts from South Derbyshire that have been selected to be part of the 2 Derbyshire units and attend the 24th World Scout Jambree in West Virginia, USA. The Jamboree is being hosted in joint between Scouts Canada, The Scout association of mexico and The Boy Scouts of America.
The World Scout Jamboree is an international Scouting event that is held every 5 years. The Jamboree invites and hosts young people who are between the ages of 14 and 18 and are part of the Scouting movement from countries all accross the world. This is am amazing opportunity for 40,000 people from across the world, who all share a common interest, to come together, forget about conflicts and disagreements and to unite as an international Scouting Family. The Jamboree offers a diverse range of activitys, as well as an opportunity to surround yourself in new cultures and religions.
The jamboree itself runs for a duration of 12 days from the 22nd of july to 2nd of august 2019. The UK contingent is then offering what is known as the ‘Big City Experience’. This is where we get to spend 3-4 days in either Washington DC or NewYork either before or after the jambore. In this time we get to explore as much of one of these phenomenal as we can. After the Jamboree, there is a week long event known as Hosted Hospitality or ‘HoHo‘ for short. This is where a Scout group from one of the host nations accomodates us in their Scout hut. We then get to spend a week living as an American Scout.
The cost of the unforgettable event is 3,495 per explorer. Although this may seem a lot, it entails everythinng detailed above and so much more. We only have 18 months till we jet off to West Virginia, leaving us just 16 months to raise the funds required. We are trying to raise fund in any way that we can, so now we are opening our reaches to the generosity and support in aim to reach our target. Any donations, big or small would be gratefully accepted and muchly appreciated.
Many thanks from the South Derbyshire 24th WSJ participants for taking the time and effort to read our post
