Story

We have now become quite famous for our festive displays on the houses in Southfield Close. In 2019, we all clubbed together to get a large communal tree with lights, and decorated our homes to provide a dazzling show for our neighbours and passers by.

Many local residents came to admire our efforts, and of course we had a great time putting it all together.

We did a similar thing in 2020 but thought we should use the event and it's increasing profile to try and raise some money for local charities. The support was 'tree - mendous', and generously totalled £1,434.17 split between Horbury Senior Citizens Group and South Ossett Food Bank. Both groups had worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, supporting local people.

2021 saw us raising money for Parkinson's and for our local Horbury Breakthrough Youth Project - £1,364 in all - split between both causes.

In 2022, we supported BHF in memory of Gerry Starkey, a friend, neighbour and founding member of our Group, who we sadly lost earlier in that year. We were delighted to hand over £2,144.45 - generously donated over the Festive period.

And, we're doing it all again for Christmas 2023. This year with a big difference. Our Local Councillor, Darren Byford arranged for the Council to install a living Christmas Tree in a custom made surround. So, there's a new part of our display. We will be supporting Mental Health and Dementia causes this year - your help will be very much appreciated.

As ever, enjoy the lights and please support us.
