Southwark Aquatics Swimming Club is a Swim England affiliated, not for profit, competitive swimming club.

It has around 115 members who are principally children aged 8-15 years of age, as well as a small Masters squad.

Recent changes imposed by Southwark Council have lead to a sharp increase in the club's costs.

We're looking to looking to raise money for the club with a sponsored walk to Canterbury.

The walk

Myself, Andy Moore, Paul Battley and Dominic Roberts will be walking from Southwark Cathedral to Canterbury Cathedral the first weekend of August.

This will be a real challenge - 58 miles total. That's further than two marathons!

We will be covering this ground in three sections, finishing at Canterbury mid-afternoon on the 2nd.

Any money we raise will go straight to the Aquatics club, whose volunteers give children a safe haven, structured mentorship, and vital water safety skills.

Southwark Aquatics Swimming Club is based in Southwark and around 60% of its members live in Rotherhithe.

Swimmers train up to 12hrs per week and compete in local swimming galas.

The better swimmers also compete in regional and county swimming events, occasionally perhaps even qualifying for national events.

The Club strives to offer competitive swimming at the best possible price to make it affordable to all.

This is difficult to sustain, given the current financial environment with costs increasing year on year, and so fundraising events and donations supplement the fees collected from swimmers to maintain the status quo.

The Club is seeking to grow and aspires to be the go to Club in the community.

Importantly, as well as honing swimmers’ skills, training at the Club instills discipline and commitment, builds fitness and good health, and provides a safe haven where lifelong friendships are made.
