Over the last two years we have managed to provide over £4000 worth of books from the Spark! School Book Awards for young people in Spark! primary schools, and this year we would like to raise even more.
When nearly everyone in a school is talking about and reading the shortlisted books from the Spark! School Book Awards, we want to make sure that disadvantaged children are just as involved.
This fund allows teachers to nominate disadvantaged children to receive copies of the books so that we can enthuse them to become lifelong readers. Don't just take our word on the impact of these awards:
"Children of all abilities were able to read the books. It was becoming a 'talked about' event across the schools. Children were using the books as a tool for conversation. Pupil Premium (disadvantaged) children were able to access high-quality and relevant texts." (Burlington Junior School)
Another teacher wrote to us to describe the look of delight on their children's faces when they received a book. And a Kingston head teacher wrote movingly to tell us how a conversation with a Spark! author during our online Q&A session helped a refugee pupil deal a little more easily with their own trauma.
In the words of Sunday Times Children Book of the Year author, Spark! Award winner and our first patron, Natasha Farrant: "I am so proud to be Spark Book Award’s first Patron. What an exciting prize this is – fun but professional, with an impressive reach and enthusiastic engagement from teachers and pupils alike. I hope that it will grow and grow, and continue to put books into the hands of children of all backgrounds, making lifetime readers of them all!"
Please support this fund and help us get quality books in the hands of our children and help us make readers of them all.
We are now a registered charity and able to access some other grants but this Just Giving Fund is a key source of funds for buy books for our pupils.
