Story

The Great Hedgehog 300 km Run

Hi, my 14 year old son Oliver is raising money for Spiny Norman's Hedgehog Support in Wyboston, Bedford. Amanda who runs it, works tirelessly 24/7 looking after the poorly hedgehogs that come into her care.

Covid-19 has had a devastating effect on many animal rescue centres and charities as they rely heavily on donations from the public and help from their volunteers which have all but dried up and sadly Spiny Norman's is no exception. I volunteer there in my spare time and I see first hand the amazing job that Amanda does and it would be devastating if she had to close her doors.

Hedgehogs roam on average 1-2 km a night in search of food and so over a typical season will have walked an astonishing 300km!

Oliver plans to run 5km a day until he has clocked up the same which is the equivalent of running from London to Liverpool! He says if the donations keep rolling in he will carry on running and see if he can get to Edinburgh.

I realise now is a financially worrying time for many but please help if you can however small the amount. It all adds up and will make all the difference to the hedgehogs. Hoglet season is fast approaching so Spiny Norman's will be busy.

For more information on Spiny Norman's and to follow the progress of the hogs currently in her care one of which is called Ollie, follow them on Facebook @spinynormans.

Thank you :)
