We are wanting to raise funds to buy a school minibus with disabled access. We have a specialist diagnostic nursery on site and this unit carries out assessments for children with all sorts of disabilities be them mental, physical, emotional or behavioural. Once they have been assessed, the children go on to special schools best suited to their needs and capabilities, although some children do carry on through main stream education whilst they can. Our dream is to own a minibus so that we can transport some of these children to outside venues such as hydrotherapy pools which would benefit them greatly. Being in an area of high deprivation, we subsidise trips and visits out for our children otherwise they would not experience such opportunities. Transport is a huge cost and limits the involvement we can have all too often. If we had a school minibus we could join in much more in festivals, outings, visits and trips, of which our children would benefit and enjoy enormously. Jan and Terry are friends to our school and have been fundraising tirelessly each weekend at Gala's in the local area to try and help us achieve our goal. Sadly, Terry died at the end of last year following a diagnosis earlier in the year of terminal cancer, related to asbestos poisoning. It was Terry's aim to help us raise funds for our school minibus and to help our children take part in everything we could possibly offer. He even offered to donate more of his time and drive the bus for us. We would love to achieve our goal in memory of Terry and all his efforts of wholehearted and tireless fundraising that he has done with his wife Jan.
