My Heart-breaking loss of Spirit after three suspected XL bullies brutal dogs attack.
Blake wants to raise awareness about dog attacks, which can happen to anyone, by sharing the heart-breaking loss of his beloved “baby” Spirit. He hopes his story will encourage responsible dog owners to stay cautious while out on walks and hopes to inspire changes to laws regarding dogs and animals including the welfare of animals. Blake also aims to improve how dog attacks are handled by the Police with their investigations, as if it was a human child who were attacked and ensuring it becomes a criminal offence to have a dangerous dog out of control without a lead or muzzle, regardless of the Breed due to irresponsible dog ownership. Blake also hopes to improve the Animal Welfare Act legislation 2006.

Blake suffered a heart-breaking and tragic loss when his beloved dog Spirit (on the left) was brutally attacked, along with Leo (on the right), by three suspected XL bullies. Spirit sustained severe injuries, and Blake was faced with the devastating and unexpected decision to put his 15-year-old terrier to sleep to end his suffering. Even before the attack, Spirit had been living with severe dementia, partial blind, and deaf.
Since losing Spirit in such a violent way, Blake has endured immense emotional and physical pain, plagued by flashbacks and nightmares of the traumatic event. In Spirit’s memory, he hopes to channel his grief into something positive by helping other dogs who have never known love, care, or affection, turning his loss into a way to heal and make a difference.
Blake would like to spread "The Community Spirit" and support with fundraising for tribute of Spirit to support a private Self-funded Dog Rescue in our Derby Community called "Life Commitment Dog Rescue"

Life Commitment Dog Rescue in Derby is a small, self-funded, non-profit organization run by married couple Russ and Tracy Siddals, who need help and support from the community and public. With generous and thankful donations, they can continue rescuing dogs from neglect, abuse, and cruelty. LCDR personally saves dogs on the “7 day put to sleep” waiting list, traveling around the country to give them a chance at life. They also rescue ex-racing greyhounds, who sadly don’t always have the best lives after retiring. As a foster-based rescue, all dogs stay in foster homes for at least four weeks, during which they are vaccinated, neutered, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and prepared for rehoming. Occasionally, they take in dogs from owners who have passed away or face difficult circumstances. Every potential home is personally checked to ensure the best future for each of our "Life Committed Rescue Dogs". Many of their rescues have been abandoned or abused, and they feel the law fails to protect animals. LCDR, based in Derby, rehomes dogs across the East Midlands. Under their adoption contract, if a new owner changes their mind about keeping a rescued dog, they must return the dog to Life Commitment Dog Rescue. This ensures the dogs are kept safe from harm, abuse, or cruelty and guarantees them a loving future.
Blake McElhatton and Otto Harta was interviewed by BBC news - Journalist Steeve Beech. There is a video clip of one of the XL bullies in the BBC news footage which were aired on television. Please watch the video footage with the the link is below:

Unfortunately the three suspected XL Bully Type Dogs were not microchipped, investigations are still being enquired to confirm dog ownership. Blake, Otto and Claire (who supports with Spirit and Leo's dog walks) all hopes for Justice...
Leo's traumatic face and injuries after the three suspected XL bullies attack - A dogs face, does not lie and Leo communicates his fear, out of his non-verbal expressions. And the sad reality and response to not having his life long furry companion :-(
"A 36-year-old woman from Derby was arrested on suspicion of allowing a fighting dog to be in a public place without a muzzle or lead and has been bailed while enquiries continue."

Blake has said the brutal attack should be treated the same, as it were a knife crime incident, attacking two victims in a park and put them both in intensive care Unit. The laws and Justice system need to be improved!!!
A dog-on-dog attack should be treated the same as dog-on-child attack. The local school were on lockdown due to the three suspected XL bully type Dogs were roaming around near a school.
Loving and special memories with Daddy Blake, Spirit and Leo xxx

if the owner of the three suspected bullies dogs which attacked my dogs and killed Spirit: I would like you to do the right thing and own up to what has happened. To help give me some closure, as all this heartbreak and painful grief could of been prevented 😢🙏❤️🩹
Fundraiser for Life Commitment Dog Rescue
As part of my Spirits-Law Campaign, I want to help raise money for neglected, abused, and mistreated animals rescued by Life Commitment Dog Rescue, because all dogs deserve to be loved as much as I love Spirit and Leo. Every dog should have a safe and loving home, free from harm and abuse. No dog should ever experience physical pain from a human. Since dogs can’t speak for themselves, it’s up to us to raise “The Community Spirit” and support the amazing work of Russ and Tracy Johnson, who go above and beyond to rescue dogs in urgent need. They rely on public donations to travel, save dogs from abuse and neglect, and keep them off “The 7-day waiting list to be put down” due to lack of ownership or severe mistreatment. Public donations are vital for covering daily operating costs like high vet bills, food, and transport. Funds also go toward emergency care, vaccinations, spaying, neutering, microchipping, and maintaining shelter facilities with essentials like bedding and toys, along with behavioural therapy from dog experts.

Here are some heart-breaking case files from Life Commitment Dog Rescue in Derby, featuring dogs saved from severe harm, neglect, and cruelty around the UK. These stories show how public donations can help give these dogs the vital treatments they need.

Tracy Johnson from LCDR Comments:
This is Buddy, and for those of you who don’t know, he was abandoned and found by a kind lady who took him to the vet. He’s only 18 months old, and despite his heart-breaking situation, he came under the care of an amazing, dedicated dog warden named Lisa Jayne, who has been tirelessly doing all she can for him. He’s already shown that whoever did this to him didn’t take away his spirit. Lisa says beautiful Buddy is dog-friendly and has been wonderful to another little female beagle who was also let down by her owners. Now comes the next step in Buddy’s recovery—finding a safe, experienced rescue space for him. It’s not easy, as many are experienced but can’t dedicate enough time to a dog like Buddy. Thankfully, the next amazing, dedicated lady, Tracy Johnson, has offered Buddy a lifeline, and he’ll be on his way to rescue once his days are up and he’s a bit stronger. There may be some bad people who do bad things, but the good far outweighs the bad. Be safe and happy, little boy—it only gets better for Buddy.

Talia was an RSPCA case there was lots of dogs left outside and starved in Lincoln we took two of them. And they are rehomed together.

This little man came into our care.. he has been too the vets today and he has Mange poor baby. He is five months old and in a bad way. He is bleading from his sores and he has been mutilating himself 😣 Elvis is a lovely baby his breathing is struggling as his face is so swollen. It will be a long road too recovery for Elvis. But we will be there for him all the way.

Just been asked about our Boycey who plays a very special part in our rescue. Thought you might all like to know.. Boycey came in as a foster dog for another rescue. As we also help foster for other rescues if needed and if we are not too busy ourselves.. Boycey was badly abused and had half his ear bitten off by a human when he came to us as a four month old pup.. Sadly Boycey was badly let down by the rescue he was under. We were told vacs when he wasn't and he contracted parvo they wanted to put him to sleep because the vets bills were mounting. We refused and took over his care and against the rescues protest we fought for him. They contacted my vets to over ride and have him put to sleep. They refused to sign him over to us as they thought it would look bad in them.. so we shot to the vets and refused to let them over ride our decision we also had him microchipped to our rescue. Naughty I know but he was worth it. He had given up on life but we refused to give up on him. We were warned that his little body was giving up we went to visit him for one last time just in case. He had been very depressed all day and they were warning us to expect the worse. We got at the vets On the evening to say our goodbyes Boycey was lying in the corner and had given up. Then he saw us and attended to stand. Still very week but he tried his hardest to get too us. The vets were amazed at his change. The next day they called us to say Boycey was going mad and had made a huge recovery and was driving them mad. The rest is history🐕🐕 This annoying amazing personality of a dog has since helped many dogs overcome dog aggression and fear aggression. And we always rely on him to bring the depressed dogs out of their shells. Life commitment wouldn't be the same without Boycey.. in this group Boycey is well known and any dog that passes being Boyceyd is thoroughly tested😂😂 Boycey is now 13 and looking very sophisticated with his grey face he melts my heart. He also has signs of dementia x

Polly came into our lives after surviving a horrific injury—her throat had been cut, leaving a deep wound. She spent over a week running free before being caught. Since settling in with us, she’s done remarkably well, though understandably, she reacts to people coming into the house and sometimes on walks. We muzzle her when visitors arrive, as she’ll bark and lunge, but given how badly she was treated... it’s a she survived. During her neck surgery, Polly was also spayed, and it’s likely she was in the early stages of pregnancy at the time. She was housetrained in just a couple of days and now lets us know when she needs to go out. At bedtime, she’s content in her crate beside our bed and sleeps quietly. We think she’s a boxer cross, as she was found with a boxer who was probably abandoned at the same time. For those she trusts, Polly is the sweetest, softest dog, though she still has fear that can trigger reactions. Because of this, she can’t be around children and needs someone fully committed to keeping her safe from strangers. We know it’s a big ask, but if any dog deserves a forever home, it’s Polly—she’ll repay you with endless affection and kisses. After spending four weeks with us, she went to stay with one of our behaviourists and has since been adopted. She’s now a completely different dog—a big softy.

Blake's comments about LCDR:
It’s been truly heart-breaking to read and share the real-life cases that Life Committed Dog Rescue has taken on, saving dogs from horrific cruelty. I can’t imagine how anyone could live with themselves after harming such innocent animals in such a malicious way. I want to thank this family-run rescue for showing just how much our community, and the world, needs people like them to keep saving dogs in need. No animal or human should ever have to endure such pain. It must be incredibly tough on Russ and Tracy Siddals and their team’s mental health, yet they continue to give dogs a second chance at life. They bring hope, teach these dogs what love truly is, and help them rebuild trust in humans so they can find loving homes. I also admire how they stand by their name—being “Life Committed”—ensuring that if a foster or adopter can no longer care for a dog, that dog returns to them, never left without a safe place.
I do really hope the public support this self-funded dog rescue in Derby, as they truly deserve the kindness back from the community and the public to allow them to continue to rescue dogs from animal neglect, abuse and cruelty. They rely on donation funds from the public for Public donations are vital for covering daily operating costs like high vet bills, food, and transport. Funds also go toward emergency care, vaccinations, spaying, neutering, microchipping, and maintaining shelter facilities with essentials like bedding and toys, along with behavioural therapy from dog experts.
All generous and kind donations will be paid directly to Life Committed Dog Rescue and their veterinary team for all dogs they rescue. Thank you again, for everything Life Commited Dog Rescue. I will be sharing this fundraiser to our local MP Catherine Atkinson, as LCDR truely deserves recognition of the amazing and inspiring work they do, to rescue dogs who have experienced neglect, abuse and pure cruelty. I hope the public share this fundraiser to spread awareness and help support in raising funds for "Life Committed Dog Rescue."
Spirit's Law Campaign -
Improve The Dangerous Dog's Act Legislation 1991 with more harsher penalties towards Irresponsible dog owners with Dangerous dogs out of control, with no lead or muzzle. To introduce all breed dog licencing to improve dogs and dog ownership tracking and tracing system under The Animal Welfare ACT 2006.

I am reaching out following the tragic events on 23/01/26, which resulted in the heartbreaking loss of Spirit, a 15-year-old terrier, and left Leo, a Jack Russell, traumatised and injured. Spirit, who was partially blind, deaf, and suffering from severe dementia, was fatally attacked by three suspected XL bully type dogs. Despite the efforts of four onlookers who bravely intervened to save Leo, who managed to throw Leo into a random car window, Spirit sustained severe injuries and ultimately had to be put to sleep to end his suffering due to, all three suspected XL bullies, brutally attacked Spirit, as a pack.
Leo, though rescued, continues to recover from a limp and emotional trauma.
This devastating incident underscores the urgent need for improved safeguards in dog ownership. Blake is advocating for the introduction of a nationwide dog licensing scheme for all breeds, which would promote responsible ownership, better vetting, and effective tracking through microchipping and Responsible Dog owner licencing. Such measures can help ensure dogs are placed in safe, loving environments and prevent future tragedies. Most importantly, prevent pain and cruelty towards animals.
Your support is crucial in advancing this campaign. Please consider contributing funds towards Responsible Dog Ownership, which will help cover costs for campaigning and improving law enforcement. Additionally, sharing this message can amplify our efforts to foster safer communities for all pets.
Thank you for caring about animal welfare and for your commitment to positive change. With collective action, we can create safer environments, prevent animal cruelty, and ensure every dog experiences love and protection. Together, responsible ownership and legislative change can make a lasting difference. Please continue to follow this campaign and Blake's efforts on making it a "criminal offence on not having a valid Dog ownership licence under the improved Animal Welfare Act 2006 and The Dangerous Dog's Act 1991 legislation.
Please follow our page Spirits Law for updates on this Campaign and everything we are doing to spread awareness. We will really appreciate the community and public support and signatures for the petition and campaign.

In Ireland, it is a criminal offence for dog owners not to have a Responsible Dog Ownership licence.

Although, in Germany, there are even more harsher penalties for dog owners who have not got a dog licence, which can support high results of criminal charges to cruelty towards animals.

Please see response below from RSPCA supporting dog licensing campaign and how this funding can support in improving laws and legislation towards animal welfare.

Photos below are AI developed, Responsible Dog Ownership licencing, can come in many forms or formats to improve dog ownership tracking and tracing. Let's make it a criminal offence to be able to track down bad dog owners who are cruel to animals.

Blake feels this will help make it a lot easier to report Irresponsible Dog Ownership to easily be reported for a dog owner not to have a Dog Licence and correct certification, to report animal neglect, abuse and cruelty. Ensuring it is a criminal offence on not having a dog licence or correct certification. Ensuring harsher penalties at Court, especially towards animals which has endured pain.

Blake also feels with improving the laws with dog licensing and certification. Vets will improve their own policies and procedures in ensuring dogs microchips are up to date on routine health check ups from the vets. Also to ensure when registering puppies at vets, the new owner has breeders details on system.

Please follow Spirits-Law Campaign on Facebook for updates and please sign and share our petition.
