Story
In June 2019 the LSBU Sports Ambassadors will be delivering a sports education and training development programme in Nkope and Nakundu primary schools in the Mangochi region of Malawi.
Sports Ambassadors will be delivering focus sports of football, netball, volleyball and athletics as well as the first ever interschool competition. Specialist coaching and sports competition is not an opportunity available to these children. Naturally Africa Volunteer’s primary principle is to develop a sustainable community through their agriculture, teaching and medical programmes which is a vision beheld by the Academy of Sport with the sports project work in Malawi making a lasting contribution to. Enhancing the skills, knowledge and development of the teachers in sport, health, fitness and education is a high priority so specialist sports coaching can be sustained within these schools and community to help leave a lasting legacy and build the sports stars of the future.
The children, families and teachers in Malawi are in real need of the support that the Academy of Sport are able to provide, with the average family living off an income of less than 50 pence per day and permanent schoolteachers responsible for classes of between 100-150 children.
A further education is something not many families are able to afford, with the transition rate from primary to secondary students in Malawi at 73%. Overall 62% of 15-25 year olds have not completed primary education in Malawi. By using sport as a vehicle for student retainment through enthusiasm, opportunity and delivering training in sports development and education to the teachers of Nakundu and Nkope primary this will support and increase the number of students completing primary education within these local communities.
Donations will be providing opportunity to the communities and schools in Malawi through a legacy of sports, coach education, training and donations.
