Look after the most vulnerable in Sri Lanka
Humanitarian appeal for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is going through a humanitarian crisis due to major economic collapse. Hospitals are running out of medications as the government does not have money to buy essential medications.
While there are many different types of medications in short/no supply, one of the most critical are the psychiatric medications needed for so many people with severe mental illness to remain well.
Clozapine, Sodium Valproate, Risperidone and Venlafaxine are four drugs that are commonly used to treat severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. Lack of these drugs will have grave consequences to patients with severe mental illnesses. Government hospitals will be running out of ALL psychiatric drugs over the next 2-3 months – the four above are the most critical.
The situation is extremely alarming as patients that rely on these drugs MUST have a steady supply for daily survival. This is an urgent appeal for funds to aid Sri Lankans until the government develops a plan to solve the national economic crisis.
This project is a partnership between the Sri Lankan Psychiatrists Association in the UK and the College of Psychiatrists in Sri Lanka with support from the World Psychiatric Association and many other psychiatric diaspora organisations in the UK.
100% of the money raised will be used to purchase medications.
