Story
I’ve decided to raise money for a local cause...... like many schools, St Helen’s Primary school is feeling the pinch when it comes to Cambridgeshire schools being underfunded. Both my boys attend the school and I recently joined the schools workforce. It’s a small village community school where everyone involved works hard for the children.
The school and PTA volunteers host the Pathfinder March‘s organisers and walkers every year as official ‘Checkpoint 5‘. Providing much needed refreshments and a rest stop for the tired participants, it’s where I first heard about the 46mile March!
The Goal
The library area of the school is in need of casual seating for the children to use. However this ‘luxury’ furniture just isn’t affordable for the school. It will not just add a splash of colour to the library area but make it a welcoming environment for the children to sit down with a book. The existing casual bean bag seating is tired and need of replacement.
I would love to raise enough to be able to buy something similar to this:

The Challenge
Pathfinder March is an annual 46-mile long-distance challenge walk around the four main Airbases. It takes place as close to the 21st of June as possible to get the maximum amount of daylight. Walkers set off at 4a.m. with 20 hours to complete the Walk. It is a gruelling test of strength, stamina and map reading skills. The masochists amongst you try to run it, they set off at 8a.m. The participants have a ‘walkers card’ which is marked off at eight checkpoints around the walk, and your progress is recorded.

I completed the March in 2016 with friends. It was extremely tough but I had the support of friends and I was a lot fitter than I am now. This year I will be walking the route solo. This will be far tougher than walking with friends who can distract from the many miles walked and many still to walk. It will be as mentally challenging as it will be a physical one.
It will really spur me on knowing I have made a difference at such a local and personal level.
Money raised for charity is usually at such a national level, (and of course is vitally important for those charities), but being at such a local level we can see where every penny will have been spent. I will show photos of the items purchased and in situ so you can all see what a difference it‘s made. Every penny will help.
Thanks for reading, Amie x
