I've raised £25000 to revitalise our historic village church as a multipurpose venue, to be used for worship, community events and as a focal point for visitors.

Story

St Mary's Acton Burnell:

Church, Community and Heritage Project

A team of local volunteers led by Rev Geoff Garrett has embarked on an ambitious project to bring this beautiful and historic church back to life as the centre of our community, by creating an attractive, bright, warm, user-friendly and versatile space which can be used as it would have been in past centuries, when churches were used similarly to the way we use village halls today.

Regular worship and services will continue as usual, but the addition of a kitchen and toilets, up to date heating and lighting will mean we can use St Mary’s for all sorts of community activities such as social events, exhibitions or dramatic productions, to name but a few.

We also plan to develop a “Heritage Trail”, telling the unique story of our church and community over the last 800 years and providing a focal point for our many visitors.

We have already secured initial funding from the Historic Shropshire Churches Trust and at the right time will be applying for Heritage Lottery Funding., however we also need to raise some of the required funds ourselves.

Please help us to reach our target!
