Story
My name is Stacie and as most of you know, i don't hide the fact that i'm passionate abut raising awareness on Autism and hopefully educate people on the challenges you face with autism. I'm no expert and i'm learning about new and old curveball challenges with autism everyday. For some of you that don't know.. i have a 7year old son Jenson who is Autistic. I openly talk about 'Navigating Autism' through my day to day life and facing challenges along the way by blogging. (please follow my blog on facebook and instagram @navigatingautism24)
Autism is a life long developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. One in 100 people are on the autistic spectrum. the spectrum is vast. These are the difficulties autistic people may share:
* Social communication and social interaction challenges.
* Repetitive and restrictive behaviour
* Over or under sensitivity to light, sound, taste or touch
* Highly focused interests or hobbies
* Extreme anxiety
* Meltdowns and shutdowns
Through sharing my journey with you, i wanted to do something proactive and set myself a challenge. March 29th - April 4th is 'Autism awareness' week and the theme this year is super7challenge. My personal challenge is going to be walking 7 miles a day for 7 days. The money i raise i have decided to donate some to the National Autistic Society and the rest to Uned Myrddin special unit carmarthen, which is the amazing special school that Jenson attends. Please keep following my story and challenge and help me to raise awareness and money along the way and hopefully make a difference!
Many thanks Stacie
