Story
We estimate a quarter of those in self-isolation do not use the internet. THEY WILL BE ALONE - no Netflix or funny memes to distract them.
One of them said to me as we talked on the phone yesterday “Hang on dear, my hearing aid’s playing up.” What then? We want to provide them with journals and newsletters dropped through their letterbox, full of inspirational prompts and positivity. We will curate an exhibition of their work at the end of the period of isolation.
But we can’t do it without your help. Every £5 donation will buy a journal and contribute to the cost of the newsletters to get this community project started. We don't want to charge a subscription for the project as many of those who need it most simply cannot afford it.
I appreciate it's a challenging time for us all, but please will you help?
Mental health and loneliness is going to be a major issue, we need to get started RIGHT NOW, next week will be too late. It's going to be important to give focus, an aim to contribute to, as well as something to look forward to at the end of the period of isolation.
For those interested in history, the journal could be a living history document; it could be a diary, it could contain thoughts, reflections, creative writing, drawings etc. However they chose to record the time. Initially the project aims to support 300 people locally, but the number in need is likely to be far greater. We all know someone.
