Weʼve raised £30 to Support Swindon Dial a Ride
- Swindon, United Kingdom
- Funded on Tuesday, 25th April 2017
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Swindon Dial a Ride is one Swindon's greatest charities and provides transport to those with mobility difficulties from visiting friends, shopping, getting to work and appointments - they are often people's only hope to get out and about.
This will be my last marathon as I struggle with my ability to adequately train and I promised my wife Dawn this my twelve marathon is the final one after I've been such a mess at the end of them.
There has never been a greater need for Dial a Ride as we all grow older and we are forced to travel to get to things amid local government cuts to this vital service. They have lost over £100,000 in Council funding forcing cuts and this is my attempt to encourage donations to this wonderful charity that depends so much on volunteers and increasingly on donations. There was a petition of over 4000 signatures against the cuts - imagine if this could be translated into financial support for my run - wow!
I have never been a great runner more of a fun one and being diabetic have to watch my blood sugar (jelly babies in shorts pockets!) but running for Dial a Ride is a cause worth fighting for. With your donation it will be all worth while!

Aged 60 Stan was born in Swindon and is a life long Swindonian. Married wife Dawn and they have four children, with wife and two daughters all in teaching. A big community champion first elected as a councillor in 1985 becoming mayor in 2002. Crucially good sense of humour!
