Story
Starting on the 22nd of September 2023, two coaches from StandStrong Academy will be completing the Goggins running challenge to raise money for a public use AED that will immediately benefit the local residents and businesses.
'The chances of a patient surviving a heart attack decrease by 10% for every minute that passes without an AED being applied. After 10 minutes without oxygen to the brain, it is unlikely that the patient will survive. If the patient is revived after this point they are likely to suffer with irreparable brain damage.' - AED.com
The closest public access AED to Brislington Hill is currently a 10 minute round drive (without traffic) which essentially makes these AEDs useless were an incident to occur in the area. This 10 minutes trip doesn't include the time taken to call 999 and retrieve the AED for use.
StandStrong Academy plans to install a public use AED on its store front, this will provide an essential lifeline in the case of a heart attack for residents, shoppers and businesses in the local area.
Sam Hinton and James Maloney, aided by other club and community members, will be completing the Goggin's running challenge, a grueling endurance event that combines endurance running with sleep deprivation!
The challenge involves running a 4 mile route, every 4 hours for 48 hours... resulting in a huge 48 miles being covered across the weekend.
The first run is planned for 16:00 on Friday 22nd September.
