On 18th April 2020 I had a pain in my side (not a contraction) I was 2 weeks before my inducement date and 4 week before my actual due date. In the early hours this pain got worse and my husband decided to take me to the princess royal hospital in Telford. As soon as we arrived I was put on a machine to check my baby was ok. It was soon detected than our babies heart beat was 240 beats per minute in was soon taken for an emergency c section and baby Stanley Jack Thomas was born at 6:07am weighing 8lbs 13oz. Stanley was rushed to ICU. Stanley spent 3 days in Telford hospital but it was decided that Stanley would be moved to Birmingham childrens hospital as Telford could no longer do anything for Stanley. So he was taken to Birmingham and on arriving he was reviewed and they decided to perform a shock treatment on Stanley they did this 3 times and this had a 90% chance of correcting his heart but Stanley was in the 10% of it not working. Even though it didn't work the doctors always had another plan and as Stanley was sedated and settled they needed time to find a new plan. On Thursday 23rd April in the early hours we received one of the worst phone calls we have every received, stanley had deteriorated through the night and we needed to make a decision. Stanley's heart needed a rest and the only option was a ecmo machine which would let his heart rest and the machine would act and work as the heart, there was only a 70% chance of it working and the possible risks were internal bleeding and brain damage. The operation took place and Stanley came through. This gave the doctors time to find a medication that would control his heartbeat. From when Stanley arrived to today he has jumped every hurdle and is our little fighter. He has also spent a week back in Telford with a chest infection. The amazing work these hospitals have done for us and we just want to say a big Thank You.
