Story
Our church organ is an old, small, one manual chamber organ which was never designed to be played in a church (it actually came from a masonic hall). Installed as an emergency measure in the 1990’s (when the old electronic organ blew up), it is under-powered for the size of our congregations, has a non-standard pedal board (added at a later date and totally unsuitable for apprentice organ-players), should ideally have a second manual to better support liturgical needs (cantor-congregational/responsorial singing), and frankly needs a lot of loving TLC by our organist Tom.
A modern (1960’s!) organ – such as a period German church organ – would not only better match our building (which dates from 1960) in terms of style, acoustic qualities and liturgical requirements, but also provide the parish with an asset which will serve the community well for many decades to come.
Thanks to the generosity of The Historical Churches Trust the parish have been able to secure a conditional grant towards a replacement organ. Although extremely generous, it will not be sufficient to fully fund a modern organ.
This is where we need your help. By donating towards a new organ you will be investing in the future of the parish for generations to come. Imagine Christmas Carol services, family masses and special occasions such as weddings blessed with the fresh sound of a clear, powerful and modern organ?
Our first fundraising event is a sponsored £500 mile cycle ride. Bob Donaldson will cycle to Paris in just 2 days (sleeping overnight on a ferry), before turning round and cycling back. He will be completely unsupported and ride an old-style steel bicycle.
