I've raised £5000 to help fund a new playground in Stapleford.

Update June 2021
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded almost £50K from the FCC Communities Foundation, as well as grants from the South Cambs Covid Recovery Fund, the Messenger Fund and the Village Hall Fund! This is fantastic news and means we can start planning our project.
However - we are still continuing to fundraise, as the playground will also need extra pieces to go with the new equipment - things like picnic tables and benches, and possibly environmental things like new fencing.
We'd also like to augment some of the natural play features - for example, adding fencing to the top of the mound to create a fort area for children to play in. So we are continuing to fundraise throughout the summer, after which we will see how much we have raised from the wonderful local community and make a plan to improve the surroundings using those donations.
Many thanks!

The Jubilee Playground is an enclosed area of Stapleford Recreation Ground, aimed at children under 12. It was installed in 2002, but is in need of refurbishment. Local families enjoy the setting, but children would love some new equipment.
Various play equipment providers have been approached and we now know that the cost for refreshing the playground is about £70,000. The Stapleford Parish Council has agreed to contribute £20k from some community funds, as they know the residents want an improved play area for under 12s - this was highlighted in a recent survey.
But that still leaves a shortfall of £50k. We have applied for grants to help fill that gap, but we'd love it if the community would consider donating too. Whether you can afford £5 or £5,000 - we'd really appreciate your donation!
If we raise the £70k by July 2021, then work can start in the autumn. We'd love to have this playground revitalised and refreshed, so the children can come together and play - something they've not been able to do for over a year.
To give you an idea of what things cost, here are a few items we want to purchase -
- £17,000 for a central climbing frame
- £7,000 for a double width slide, built into the hill
- £4,000 for a built-in ground level trampoline
- £1,400 for a seesaw
- £1,000 for a 'you & me' two-seater swing
If you're able to contribute a larger amount, and buy one of these items outright - for example, as a legacy donation - please do contact Gillian separately.
Please help transform the old tired playground into something new, exciting and inclusive - to reflect the kind of village we aspire to be.
